HEADLIGHT BULBS 9003
purchased 9/25/2017 near Pismo Beach, CA for $1,250 cash.
shown above after being clay-bared, cleaner-waxed, and jax carnuba waxed, she shined up pretty good even tho the paint was pretty nice to start with. purchased 9/25/2017 from a gentleman/dad/softball player in arroyo grande who had gotten it from an older couple/neighbor who had babied the car for quite some time. (called tor in lompoc and he remembered the car, and confirmed it had been babied, and driven by an older woman)
when softball dad dean finally realized his daughter wasn’t going to like driving a stick, he decided to sell it , just months after getting it. the car set for several months, and i kept seeing it when i did a wider craigslist search. i really wanted to find out more about it. i liked the color, and the fact that it was a particularly rare 5-speed 3-door SE. turns out, his hard to coordinate schedule had kept other buyers away.
when i finally go around to contacting him about this NG900, he called me back when i was at J&B and told me all about the car. he mentioned the instruments all going off after a short time, but they always came right back on. he also mentioned that he’d gotten a new rear middle panel for the hatch since the other had been broken (you could see it was broken in the photo on craigslist) he also explained that he was about 4 hours away and that traffic could be an issue.
a couple of weeks passed and we finally decided to plan an overnight to pismo and see if we could go see the car. it was an amazing trip. the room was awesome, and we whale-watched in the morning. i finally heard back from him, and we set up a time to see the car. unfortunately, the PPI to san lois obispo wasn’t to be. no time, and too much traffic. i drove the car twice, and offered him way under the current asking price. we agreed on a price only $250 more than my offer. signed papers and we were on the way home.
cinda likes it when she follows me on the freeway. i like to follow her. she drives very slow. but we made it easily, and even stopped for lunch and coffee along the way.
on the way home, i averaged 31.4 MPG
here’s logging my first 100 miles on it.
after i got home, and took the car to J&B for a post-purchase inspection, we realized it was a minor miracle that i had not had a blow-out on the old, cracked tires that were on this car. they were at least 9 years old, and i kinda thought the sidewalls felt a little “soft”
installed some new Cooper tires and went on down the road. the woman balancing the tires noted that the 2 rear rims were slightly bent and showed me now they wobbled a bit on the balancing machine.
another saab story continues….
